Mellow bar with reasonable priced alcohol. It was a bit full of people but didn't feel overwhelming. They have pool if you're looking for a place to have a few drinks and get in some games. The vibe is very relaxed.
The drinks are strong in the pool tables are good. Service is crazy slow but it's a bar in a downtown so you get what you get. All that said it's still the best pool hall in Albuquerque.
Was in Albuquerque for a few days. My son and I stopped in the Anodyne a couple of times for a few drinks and some snooker and billiards. We loved the place and the service. The only complaint I'd have is that it was hard to find a decent house cue to shoot with. I can understand that they get abused by some of the patrons so it is what it is. I will be back.
My wife and I went out tonight for our 11th anniversary. We hadn't been downtown in many years, but thought we would give it a shot, as she really wanted to play pool. We stopped at a nearby smoke shop and bought a cigarette for each of us, and walked upstairs to the entrance of the Anodyne. As we approached the top landing of the stairs, we were very rudely told by the employees that "nowhere in the city allows smoking". We went right back down the stairs and disposed of the cigarettes, and went back up to play pool. We made it about four steps up before the same employees shouted at us "It's better if you just go home". We were just looking to play some pool, and didn't realize that things had changed since the last time we were at the Anodyne, and felt very poorly treated. You lost on some potential business, and could have simply explained that smoking was not allowed inside! My wife was very disappointed and we took our money elsewhere!!
Chill bar, pool hall, sells cigs from a vending machine and pours great drinks! We are so lucky to find this place on our second "hop!"
